Cannot Send Mail after iOS 11 Update

UPDATE: Apple has released iOS 11.01, installing the update will solve the issues. To update follow this guide

We are seeing reports this morning that users are experiencing issues sending emails with the latest version of Apples iOS released last night. iOS 11 is a major update to the iPhones and iPad operating system.

The problems reported are that when replying or sending a new email via the native Mail app emails will not send. It has not affected the dedicated Outlook app.

Both Apple and Microsoft have acknowledged the problem and are working on a fix.

We would recommend your staff do not upgrade to iOS 11 until this is patched.

If users have already updated and are experiencing issues, some users have reported that going to the mail account in Settings and re-enter their email server password solves the issue temporarily. Here's how to do that:

How to change/renter your password

Step #1: Launch Settings

Usually on the home screen, you may swipe right and begin typing “Settings” into the search field to launch the app.

Step #2: Open the Email Account

  1. In the Settings app, navigate to Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  2. Tap the account name to view the account. It will show your company, Office 365, Exchange, name or email address.

Step #3: Open Account Settings

On the next  screen, tap on your email address near the top of the screen next to Account which will take you to the settings. From there, you will be able to update the account password.

Step #4: Edit Account Settings

You can update the password from the Account settings window by clicking on tho the dots and typing your password again.

Once you have reentered your password, hit done in the top right hand corner.

Alternatively, you can install the Outlook app from the app store which is unaffected.
